Our future priests

by Vangie Tolentino-Alconis

During our April 2011 visit to Magsingal to attend SWI’s Global Reunion and sponsor a Medical, Dental and Surgical Mission, our Parish Priest, Father Florencio Rebebes, approached several of our townmates whether we could provide financial assistance to two (2) seminarians, Aaron Florentino Taloza of San Julian and Froilan Unciano of San Ramon, who are studying for the priesthood at the Mary’s Help of Christian Seminary in Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Father only asked for a monthly assistance of P5,000 pesos per person (between USD $115-$120/month using P42:USD$1), subject to inflation, of course, to cover for their board and lodging.  One generous person came forward, Arlene Tolentino-Alquero of Hawaii.   Since these two (2) seminarians have nine (9) remaining years to complete their education, Arlene cannot shoulder all of their expenses.  Therefore, we are here today to seek financial assistance from YOU on behalf of Father.

All of Arlene’s donations are channeled through the Magsingal Association of Northern California (MANC) and the Magsingal Scholarship Foundation in Magsingal.  Therefore, all of her donations will be US tax deductible.    Mrs. Librada Garcia, Treasurer and wife of Mr. Oderico Garcia, and Mr. Carlos Maranion, Chairperson of the Foundation, are in charge of disbursing the funds in Magsingal to the seminarians.  All you need to do is mail your donations to MANC, Inc. monthly, quarterly or yearly, however you want it done.  We can put all of that in the Contract.

We know that many of us have fallen into hard times and have many bills to pay, and some might even feel like depression, but there are few of you out there who have more financial freedom.  So, if you are that person, and would like to see these two young men become holy priests, and God is knocking at your heart, please open your heart and wallet by contacting Nestor Viloria or Vangie Tolentino-Alconis at the e-mail addresses or phone numbers below.

While Santa Catalina keeps producing more priests, Magsingal has not had any in a very, very, very long time according to Father.  The last one was Father Garrett Ulanimo.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you. Though school has already begun in the Philippine, we welcome sponsors.

God bless you all.
